The group works at the Centre for Biotechnology in University of Turku and is lead by Dr. Veli-Matti Kähäri.

We examine the role and regulation of MMPs, as well as their specific inhibitors, TIMPs, in tumor growth and invasion, tissue repair, and fibrosis and the possibility to affect it by gene therapy. Elucidation of the role of MMPs in the invasion of cancer may lead to potential new treatment for cancer.
